Trunk / Liftgate Solenoid: Description and Operation
The trunk release solenoid is located on the trunk latch. Power for the release switch, located in the glove box, is supplied on circuit M1. This circuit is the Ignition-Off Draw (IOD) circuit and is protected by a 10 Amp fuse located in cavity 13 of the junction block. Power for the fuse is supplied on circuit A7 from the Power Distribution Center (PDC). The A7 circuit is protected by a 20 Amp fuse located in cavity G of the PDC.The trunk release switch is normally OPEN. When the operator presses the switch contacts in the switch are closed connecting circuits M1 and P2.
The P2 circuit connects from the switch to the release solenoid. Ground for the solenoid is provided on circuit Z1 which terminates at the left rear wheel well.
On vehicles equipped with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) the P2 circuit is spliced with the RKE module. This allows the RKE module to provide power to the trunk release solenoid.
