Sunroof - Does Not Close Completely

NO: 23-80-94

GROUP: Body

DATE: Oct. 28, 1994

SUBJECT:
Sunroof Lever Latch Pin

MODELS:

1995 (FJ) Talon/Avenger/Sebring

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO SEP. 16, 1994.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The pivot pin in the sun roof lever mechanism may come out during normal operation. This can cause interference which prevents the sunroof from closing completely.

PARTS REQUIRED:

2 MR217021 Pivot Pin
AR MR199785 Guide Rail Assembly - LH
AR MR199786 Guide Rail Assembly - RH

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Power the sunroof to the vent position. Make sure the pivot pin is aligned with the access hole (Figure 1).

NOTE:
IF ARM MECHANISM DOES NOT HAVE AN ACCESS HOLE (EARLY PRODUCTION), THEN REPLACE THE GUIDE RAIL ASSEMBLY.

2. Following the proper procedure, remove sunroof glass.

The following procedures apply to both the right and left sides of the sun roof guide arm assemblies.

3. With a trim stick or other suitable tool, slide the locker arm outboard (push the arm as far outboard as possible to prevent damage to locker arm).

4. Insert a punch through the access hole and push the pin out (far enough to remove it with pliers).

5. Remove the pivot pin, pulling it out from the outside of the guide rail, using needle nose pliers.

CAUTION:
PLACE A PAD ON THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE TO PREVENT SCRATCHING THE PAINT OR DAMAGE TO THE ROOF WHEN REMOVING THE PIN.

6. Install a new knurled pivot pin, P/N MR217021, using a punch or pliers from the outside. Make sure the knurled end leads into the hole.

CAUTION:
DO NOT HAMMER THE PIN IN.

7. Using a trim stick or other suitable tool, slide the locker arm inboard (back to its original position).

8. Install the sunroof glass on the guide assemblies according to the Service Manual.

9. Test the function of the Sun Roof and double check to confirm that the pins are fully seated and that the sun roof functions properly.

NOTE:
IF THE SUN ROOF DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, VERIFY THAT THE LOCKER ARM IS NOT BENT. IF GLASS SEEMS TO HANG UP, THE ARM MECHANISM MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED PREVIOUSLY AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR GUIDE RAIL REPLACEMENT.

POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
