42 FUEL LEVEL UNIT NO CHANGE OVER MILES

When low fuel level is detected, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the voltage from the from the fuel level sending unit for variations in voltage. If the voltage doesn't change for a period of time while the key is on and/or driving, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is stored.

This malfunction could possibly be caused by the following:

- Fuel level sending unit
- Vehicle towed with the key on and low fuel
- Customer operates vehicle for an extended period of time with low fuel, adding only small quantities of fuel when fuel is needed
