Tachometer

1. Connect flux reading (inductive) tachometer to high tension wire or insert paper clip into the engine revolution speed detection terminal located inside engine compartment. Connect tachometer.
2. On models with DOHC engines, the engine speed signal is 1/3 the actual speed. Ensure the tachometer is set to the two cylinder range for an accurate measurement.
3. On all models, compare readings on dashboard tachometer vs. tool tachometer as follows:
a. At 1000 RPM, acceptable variation is ±100 RPM.
b. At 3000 RPM, acceptable variation is ±150 RPM.
c. At 5000 RPM, acceptable variation is ±250 RPM.
d. At 6000 RPM, acceptable variation is ±300 RPM.

4. If readings are not as specified, replace tachometer.
