NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO 2.0L DOHC ENGINES WITH ENGINE BUILD DATES FROM AUG. 1, 1994 THROUGH OCT. 31, 1994 (DATE CODES 057 THROUGH 148).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Engine damage caused by incorrect installation of either camshaft sprocket after an engine repair.

DISCUSSION:

Camshaft Sprocket:

The camshaft sprockets on the 2.0L DOHC engines built Aug. 1, 1994 through Oct. 31, 1994 may have two timing marks on the 2.0L side of each sprocket.

DISCUSSION:
It is essential that the correct timing mark is used when setting the cam timing. If the wrong timing mark is used, the valves may come into contact with the pistons resulting engine damage.

2.0L Engine:

The engine build date code is located on the right rear area of the valve cover.

The build date code is located on the upper left edge of the sticker, located on the valve cover. Figure 3.
