NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO FEB. 1, 1995 (MDH 02-01-XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The cable relief tube may move out of position on the sunroof control unit. This will cause an out of time condition and not allow the sunroof to fully open or close.
DIAGNOSIS:
Operate the sunroof to verify the condition. Check the pivot pins in the sunroof lever mechanism. If the pivot pin is causing interference, perform TSB 23-80-94 and re-check the operation. If the pivot pins are in place and the condition exists, perform the following procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 6016155 Tie Strap
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves removing the sunroof control unit, making modifications to the unit, re-timing, and fastening the control unit to the bracket.
1. Remove the headliner to gain access to the sunroof control unit.
2. Fully close the sunroof before removing the control unit. A 5 mm allen wrench can be inserted into the motor and rotated to manually close the sunroof (Figure 1).
3. Remove the control unit from the sunroof bracket.
NOTE:
IF A PLASTIC TIE STRAP IS TIED AROUND THE CONTROL UNIT, PROCEED TO STEP 5.
4. Using a sharp utility or modeling knife, shave off the two locating tabs on the top side of the control unit (Figure 2).
CAUTION:
USE CARE TO PREVENT PLASTIC SHAVINGS FROM FALLING IN OR AROUND THE CONTROL UNIT GEAR. THIS CAN OBSTRUCT GEAR MOVEMENT.
5. Check to see if the white dots are lined up in the top and bottom viewing window of the control unit. If they are, it indicates that the control unit is properly timed. If not, turn the rotating wheel located on the top side of the control unit until the dots are lined up (Figure 3).
6. Thread a tie strap, P/N 6016155, through the slot in the control unit retaining bracket (Figure 4). Position the strap so it will wrap around the center of the control unit with the head of the strap located at the front of the control unit when tightened.
7. Position the cable tube so it will locate into the control unit slot. Tape can be wrapped around the cable tubes at the corner to help hold the control unit tube in position (Figure 5).
8. Make sure the sunroof glass is fully closed and re-install the control unit to the bracket. Hold the control unit on a slight angle while sliding it onto the bracket tab. Once located, push the control unit up to lock it into the bracket hole. Operate the sunroof to make sure the cable is positively installed into the control unit.
9. Tighten the plastic tie strap. Make sure the strap is wrapped around the center of the unit with the head of the strap located at the front of the unit. Cut off any excess tie strap after tightening.
10. Test sunroof operation prior to re-installing the headliner.
