41 Generator Field Not Switching Properly

41 GENERATOR FIELD NOT SWITCHING PROPERLY

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the generator field by duty cycling the ground signal at pin 41. Battery voltage is supplied to the generator field through the Automatic Shut Down (ASD) relay. The generator output is based upon the total amount of time the field remains grounded.

The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is stored in memory when the PCM cannot de-energize or energize the field of the generator.

This malfunction could possibly be caused by problems with any of the following components:

- Generator (no battery voltage being supplied)
- Generator field windings (open)
- Generator field wiring or related connectors (open or shorted)
- PCM
