DISASSEMBLE
1. Remove Tripod Joint boot bands.
2. Remove Tripod joint case.
3. Remove snap ring off Tripod joint end of driveshaft.
4. Remove spider assembly off driveshaft. Do not service spider assembly.
5. Wrap vinyl tape around splines of driveshaft then remove Tripod joint boot.
6. Remove Birfield Joint (Birfield joint) bands.
7. Wrap vinyl tape around splines of driveshaft then remove Birfield joint boot.
8. Remove Birfield joint. Do not service Birfield joint.
INSPECTION
1. Check driveshaft for damage, bending or corrosion.
2. Check driveshaft spline for wear or damage.
3. Check Birfield joint for entry of water or foreign material.
4. Check spider assembly for roller rotation, wear or corrosion.
5. Check Birfield joint outer race for damage or corrosion.
6. Check boots for damage, cracking or wear.
ASSEMBLE
Reverse disassembly procedure to assemble, noting the following:
1. Wrap vinyl tape around spline on driveshaft then install Birfield joint and Tripod joint boots.
2. Fill inside of Birfield joint and Birfield joint boot with half of grease included in repair kit.
3. Secure boot bands with driveshaft at a 0° angle.
4. Apply grease to spider assembly then install spider assembly with chamfered spline end first.
5. Install Tripod joint on driveshaft.
6. Set Tripod joint boot bands 3.23-4.47 inches apart to adjust amount of air inside boot then tighten Tripod joint boot band securely.
