Removal

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain transaxle fluid.
3. Remove air cleaner assembly.









4. Remove transaxle assembly in numbered sequence shown in the figure above, noting the following:
a. Remove starter motor with starter motor harness connected and position aside.
b. Support engine using engine support fixture tool No. MB991191, or equivalent.
c. Loosen, but do not remove nut from tie rod ends and lower arm ball joint using ball joint puller tool No. MB991113-01, or equivalent.
d. Use puller tool No. MB990767, or equivalent, to remove RH drive shaft nut from hub, then push RH drive shaft out of hub using tool No. MB990241, or equivalent.





e. Remove driveshaft by applying pry bar to protrusion, as shown. Remove driveshaft as an assembly together with hub and knuckle
f. Remove LH drive shaft and inner shaft assembly from transaxle by tapping on center bearing bracket a suitable plastic hammer.





g. Support transaxle assembly with a suitable transaxle stand, then rotate crankshaft and remove four torque converter bolts.
h. After removing bolts, push torque converter toward transaxle.
i. Remove coupling bolt at bottom of transaxle assembly, then lower transaxle assembly.
5. Reverse procedure to install.
