Intercooler: Description and Operation
Intercooler And Components:
Purpose
The intercooler is a heat exchanger designed to increase intake air density by removing excess heat from the intake air.
Location
The Intercooler is mounted ahead of the right fenderwell, in between the turbocharger output and the throttle body intake hoses.
Operation
Cooling the intake air increases the air density and efficiency of the combustion mixture, this helps reduce combustion chamber temperature, reducing the chance of engine ping, and allowing higher boost pressures.
