SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
On some vehicles the outer door belt moldings are loose or pulled away from the door at the ends. This condition is caused by broken or improperly engaged clips (plastic) at the ends. Vehicles with improperly seated or broken retaining clips should have the following procedure performed.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This procedure involves widening the belt molding retaining slots in the door sheet metal.
1. Remove the door belt molding on the affected door(s).
2. Locate the retention slots, there are two per door.
3. Using a small round file, lightly file the inner walls to 3.0 - 3.5 mm wide.
4. Clean any fillings from the area.
5. Coat the exposed sheet metal with Mopar Touch-Up Paint or Sealer.
6. Install the belt molding by pushing it downward into the slot at one end, engaging the metal clips, and finally the last plastic clip into the door slot. If the molding clips are broken, it will be necessary to replace the molding.
