Coolant Temperature Indicator

If the lamp is not lit when engine is being cranked, check for a defective bulb, open in the light circuit, or a defective ignition switch.

If the lamp is lit when the engine is running, check for overheated cooling system, defective temperature switch, or wiring between lamp and switch for short to ground.
