Whistling Sound From Climate Control Unit
MODELS:
1993 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/Vision
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicles may exhibit a whistling sound from the climate control unit. This sound is most noticeable with the fan in the mid-range speeds, and the blend air door in the high temperature position. If the whistle occurs with the engine off, proceed with the repair procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
AR "Dum-Dum" Sealer (3M Stip-Calk P/N 08578 or equivalent) NPN
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair involves sealing the seam between the upper and lower heater/AC housings.
1. Remove the blower motor and wheel assembly as outlined on page 24-10 of the 1993 Concorde/Intrepid/Vision Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-3140).
2. Apply "Dum-Dum" sealer to all seam areas around the blower wheel housing and evaporator housing that can be reached through the motor opening. Add extra sealant to the plastic mating parts in the area where the evaporator tubes exit the unit. Make sure that the material around the blower wheel area is smooth so that air can be efficiently moved by the motor wheel. Do not add an excessive amount which will restrict airflow or cause binding of the motor wheel.
3. Install the blower motor and wheel assembly.
4. Operate blower to verify whistle is eliminated.
