ATC - Lack of Comfort In Sunny Weather
NO.:24-09-93
GROUP:
Heater & A/C
DATE:
Mar. 26, 1993
SUBJECT:
ATC Sun Sensor Location
MODELS:
1993 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/Vision
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some ATC equipped vehicles may exhibit a lack of passenger comfort in partly sunny to sunny weather, but have no problem in night operation. This is most likely to occur in the afternoon when the sun is lower in the sky.
DIAGNOSIS:
Verify that the ATC system is functioning properly by performing the self diagnostic test on page 24-21 of the 1993 Concorde/Intrepid/Vision Service Manual (Publication No. 81- 270-3140). Inspect the location of the sun sensor. The sun sensor must protrude approximately 1/4 inch above the instrument panel top cover to insure proper operation. If the sun sensor protrudes less than 1/4 inch above the instrument panel, perform the repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair involves repositioning the sun sensor.
1. Confirm that the top cover is properly installed in the vehicle. Reposition if necessary. If the sun sensor is still not 1/4 inch above the top cover, proceed to step 2.
2. Remove the top cover.
3. Remove fasteners from sun sensor.
4. Install one 1/4-20 nut per fastener under the sun sensor so that it is shimmed higher.
5. Reinstall the sun sensor; be careful not to over tighten screw. If a longer screw is required, a 8-15 x 1 inch screw is recommended.
6. Install top cover and check height. Repeat process by adding another nut if needed until the sun sensor protrudes approximately 1/4 inch above the top cover.
7. Verify that the ATC system is functioning properly by performing the self diagnostic test on page 24-21 of the 1993 Concorde/Intrepid/Vision Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-3140).
