ATC System - Warm Air From Discharge Outlets

NO.:
24-14-92

GROUP:
Air Conditioning

DATE:
Nov. 16, 1992

SUBJECT:
ATC System Warm Air From Discharge Outlets

MODELS:

1993 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/New Yorker/Vision

DISCUSSION:

In hot (above 85 F) and humid (80% relative humidity) climates, the ATC system may cause discomfort by discharging warm air (above 55 F) from the outlets while the customer is operating the system in FULL AUTO (Auto Mode & Fan).

The body control module software does not allow the system to stay in full recirculation for more than 10 minutes after the vehicle is started. This results in system capacity degradation due to a high load on the evaporator when pulling in the hot/humid outside air.

If a customer complaint is received of warm air discharged from panel outlets, at a medium to high blower speed, and all of the following conditions are met:

1. A/C System is fully charged.
2. Temperatures are above 85 F.
3. Humidity is above 80%.
4. Customer is operating system in FULL AUTO (Auto Mode & Fan).

Instruct the customer to manually select Recirculation if they experience discomfort while operating the ATC system in high temperature and high humidity conditions. (Note: Make the customer aware that continuous use of Recirc may make inside air stuffy over long periods of driving time; use only when necessary).

This instruction to the customer has already been published in the Operating Tips from the LH Team, and will be included in the second printing of the LH Owner's Manual.
