SUBJECT:
Lower Knee Bolster Panel to Door Panel Interference
MODELS:
1993-1994 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/Vision
SYSTEM/CONDITION:
Instrument panel lower knee bolster contacts door trim panel damaging one or both of the panels.
If damage is present, proceed with the repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair procedure involves repositioning the door and/or door trim panel to gain clearance between the knee bolster panel and door panel.
1. If damage to the lower knee bolster panel or door panel is too extensive to paint, replace the affected panels.
2. With the door in the closed position, check for clearance between the panels. A thin piece of cardboard or credit card should move easily between the panels (2 mm to 4 mm).
3. If sufficient clearance does not exist, check that the door panel is properly installed and attachment hooks are properly engaged to inner door sheet metal. Reposition as necessary.
4. If more clearance is required, loosen the lower hinge to the door attaching bolts and move lower door outward in 1 mm to 2 mm increments until clearance is attained.
5. Check flushness of outer door skin and front fender. If necessary, adjust the lower front fender as required.
6. Verify the door opening weather seals are still making sufficient contact using powder or paper pull method. Adjust as required.
