Door Glass - Hard To Roll Up

Door Glass Adjustment

MODELS:

1990-1993 (BD) Laser/Talon

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

On some vehicles, the door glass may be hard to roll up or the glass may come out of the runchannel.

DIAGNOSIS:

Ensure the door(s) are properly aligned and verify the window regulator(s) are functioning as designed. If door(s) are properly aligned and the regulator(s) are functioning correctly and condition still exists, proceed with the repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This repair involves adjustment of the runchannel, regulator(s) to glass adjustment, regulator(s) to door adjustment and shimming of the regulator(s).

1. Remove the door trim panel(s) and waterproof film(s).

RUNCHANNEL ADJUSTMENT:

2. Loosen the three bolts on the exterior door mirror.

3. Remove the door runchannel weatherstrip.





4. Measure the lower front sash side dimension, as illustrated. The sash should measure 11 mm - 12 mm. Adjust if necessary. HINT: A piece of wood 11 mm wide inserted into runchannel will aide in the adjustment.

5. Install the door runchannel weatherstrip.

6. Tighten the mirror bolts making sure not to compress door sash and verify repair.

REGULATOR TO GLASS ADJUSTMENT:

7. Loosen the two bolts holding the glass to the regulator.

8. Move the glass rearward, ensure the entire rear edge of the glass is inserted into the runchannel.

9. Tighten the two bolts and verify repair.

REGULATOR TO DOOR ADJUSTMENT - DRIVER (LEFT) SIDE DOOR:

10. Roll the window down six inches from the top.

11. Loosen the four bolts attaching the regulator to the door.

12. Pull the glass toward the back of the door (do not push the glass downward).

13. While holding the glass in place, tighten the four bolts and verify repair.

REGULATOR TO DOOR ADJUSTMENT - PASSENGER (RIGHT) SIDE DOOR:

14. Loosen the four bolts attaching the regulator to the door.

15. Roll the window up and down 3 to 4 times. On the last time up, stop three inches from the top.

16. Tighten the four bolts and verify the repair.

SHIMMING OF THE REGULATOR - ONLY IF PREVIOUS REPAIRS DID NOT CORRECT CONDITION:

17. Remove the lower regulator to door mounting bolts.

18. Install a standard thickness washer (approximately 1/16") between the regulator and the door.

19. Install the bolts and verify repair.
