SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Instrument panel oil pressure gauge reads low.

DIAGNOSIS

Check the engine oil pressure with a mechanical test gauge and if the oil pressure is ok (above 12 psi at idle with the engine fully warmed up), the instrument panel oil pressure gauge should be replaced.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Because a low gauge reading on some vehicles does not reflect the engine's actual oil pressure, a new oil pressure gauge which has improved accuracy at both the high and the low end of the scale was introduced as a production running change in early December 1989.

FIGURE 1:

This new gauge can be identified by the letter "C" on the gauge face as indicated below in Figure 1.

Consult the meters and gauges section of the 1990 Volume 2 - Electrical Service Manual for the proper procedure to replace the oil pressure gauge.
