SUBJECT: Talon Sunroof Security Spring Squeak/Rattle

SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Some 1990 Talon models, equipped with a sunroof, may exhibit one or both of the following conditions:
A. The sunroof security spring may squeak when the sunroof is open. This is due to the security spring rubbing against the spring bracket.
B. When the sunroof is closed, the security spring may vibrate and contact the glass causing a rattle noise.
To correct one or both of the above conditions, perform the appropriate repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE - CONDITION A
This procedure involves installing shrink tubing on the security spring to prevent it from squeaking.
1. Remove the glass assembly.
2. To remove the security spring, insert a screwdriver into the side of the security spring mounting assembly and pry it loose from the glass assembly. Disconnect the security spring.
3. Select an appropriate size of shrink tubing and install it on both sides of the security spring where it contacts the bracket as shown in Figure 1.
4. Position the security spring in the mount and assemble the mounting assembly on the glass assembly, squeeze the mount with pliers to tighten.
5. Select an appropriate size of shrink tubing and install it on the security spring bracket.
6. Install the glass assembly.

REPAIR PROCEDURE - B
This procedure involves the installation of a foam pad under the security spring to prevent it from rattling when the sunroof is closed.
1. Remove the glass assembly.
2. Install a foam pad 15 x 5 x 2.5 mm (5/8 x 3/16 x 1/8 in) on the glass assembly under the security spring as shown in Figure 2.
3. Install the glass assembly.
