Engine Controls - Poor Performance/A/C Engagement Bump

HELP USING THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION FOR FLASHING AN ECU IS
AVAILABLE BY SELECTING "HELP" THEN "HELP CONTENTS" AT THE TOP OF
THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION WINDOW.

THE wiTECH SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 13.02 OR HIGHER TO
PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE.

SUBJECT:
Flash: High Ambient Bump While Accelerating and/or High Ambient Lack of Power

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software.

MODELS:

2013 PF Dart

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 1.4L Engine (Sales Code EAF) and the C635 Manual Transmission (Sales Code DE1) and equipped with either Export Emissions (Sales Code NA1) or 50 State Emissions (Sales Code NAS) without the Aero Package (Sales Code AYS) built between July 19, 2012 (MDH0719XX) and August 21, 2012 (0821XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customer may indicate that they feel an A/C engagement bump during acceleration when ambient temperatures are above 90F (32C) and/or performance derate when temperatures are above 90°F (32°C).

DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer describes the symptom, perform the Repair Procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Electronic Control Modules - Service Information > Module - Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures > PCM/ECM Programming.

NOTE:
The following MUST be performed once the PCM has been flashed.

2. Turn the ignition key "Off" for a minimum of 10 seconds to allow module to update and power down.

3. Turn the ignition Key "On".

4. Using wiTECH at the home screen select PCM.

5. DTC P1302 - Transmission Self Learning will be present.Depress the clutch fully to allow DTC to store.

6. Perform Cruise Control Learn Procedure.

a. Press, then release the Cruise ON/OFF button on the steering wheel.
b. Start Engine.
c. Press the Cruise ON/OFF button to verify that the Cruise indicator illuminates on the cluster.

7. Perform TLC Relearn Procedure.
a. Select PCM from Vehicle View.
b. Select the Misc. Functions Tab.
c. Set parking brake and start the engine.
d. Select the "Clear Mis-fire TLC" function and verify the Misfire TLC has been cleared.
e. Select the Monitors drop down list (top of wiTECH) and select "OBDII Monitors".
f. Select the "Mis-fire Mon SWC" screen.
g. While watching the "Mis-fire Mon SWC" screen, allow the engine to warm up until coolant temp has reached 140°F (60°C).
h. Once coolant temp reaches 140°F (60°C), perform a 6000 RPM wide open throttle stab and let RPM return to idle.
i. Verify that the Mis-fire Monitor Status on the "Mis-fire Mon SWC" screen has changed from "Waiting" to "In Progress". If 6000 RPM was not achieved, then perform Step H again.

8. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.

9. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label" and attach it near the VECI label.
