SUBJECT:
Flash: BCM, ORC And HVAC Enhancement
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves updating the software in the Body Control Module (BCM), Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC).
MODELS:
2013 (PF) Dart
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicle built before June 27, 2012 (MDH 0627XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience any of the following:
1. Updating the BCM software will correct the following conditions.
a. If the flash to pass is actuated when the headlamps are in a delay mode and the ignition is turned off, the headlamps may not turn off and cause a battery drain.
b. Vehicle equipped with SmartBeam and in Auto mode, the headlamps may switch from high beam to low beam, on a road without on coming traffic. This will happen when passing a large reflective sign.
c. Vehicle equipped with Passive Entry, and the trunk is open and closed quickly, the trunk may reopen with out switch input.
d. If the fog lamps switch is in the on position and the next key cycle the fog lamps may not turn on.
2. The Odometer flashes intermittently. On further inspection, the tech may find Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2204 - 55ECU Configuration Mismatch - Not Configured is set. This is caused by the ORC not responding to the BCM when a configuration code is requested. The DTC will set anytime the condition is met. If the condition has occurred 4 consecutive key cycles the odometer will flash. This condition will not cause any customer concerns, and all systems will work properly. Updating the ORC software will correct this condition.
3. A no crank condition and or low battery voltage. This is caused by the HVAC control module staying awake after the vehicle is turned off. Updating the HVAC software will correct this condition.
DIAGNOSIS:
If a customers VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers that describe the symptom/condition or if the technician finds the DTC, perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
NOTE:
Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
NOTE:
Integrated Center Stack (ICS) screen may go blank anytime during the BCM flash, DO NOT replace the ICS. To correct this condition, first complete the BCM flash, then turn off the ignition, disconnect the wiPOD/StarMobil from the DLC, open and close the drivers door and let all of the modules go to sleep. ICS will start to work properly on the next key cycle.
1. Open the drivers window.
CAUTION:
We recommend to open the window before performing the update because the doors may lock itself during a module update. If the doors are locked and the windows are up, use the wiTech under BCM actuators tab to unlock the doors.
2. Flash reprogram the BCM, ORC and HVAC. Help using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application for flashing the control modules is made available through the wiTECH Diagnostic Application. For instructions select the "HELP" tab on upper portion of the wiTECH window, then "HELP CONTENTS". This will open the Welcome to wiTECH Help screen where help topics can be selected.
3. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.
