SUBJECT:
Rattle And/Or Buzz At The Right Rear Of Vehicle And/Or Fuel Door Will Not Open

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting and if necessary modifying the fuel filler housing. It may also involve inspecting the fuel filler door and if necessary reinstalling or replacing the fuel filler housing.

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles with the rattle and/or buzz at the right rear of vehicle condition built after May 02, 2012 (MDH0502XX) and before June 21, 2012 (MDH0621XX). This bulletin also applies to vehicles with the fuel door freezing condition built after May 02, 2012 (MDH0502XX) and before February 13, 2013 (MDH0213XX) for vehicles in Canadian Markets and in salt belt states which include Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Rattle and/or buzz at the right rear of vehicle and/or fuel door will not open.

DIAGNOSIS:
If a customers VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers that describe the symptom/condition, perform the Repair Procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Is this vehicle in the Canadian Market or salt belt states which include Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin?
a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 2.
b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 6.
2. Open the fuel filler door and remove the fuel cap.
3. Cover the fuel filler neck with a rag or masking tape to prevent debris from entering the area.





4. Drill two 6mm (1/4") holes at the hinge pocket corner locations shown in (Fig. 1).

NOTE:
The housing and hinge pocket has a thickness of 3mm (1/8in), so a drill stop should be used at 5mm (3/16in) to ensure that nothing behind the housing is damaged from the drill bit.

WARNING:
Do not use an electric drill motor. Use a hand or pneumatic drill.

5. Clean debris, remove the fuel neck protector and reinstall fuel cap.
6. Does this vehicle exhibit a rattle and/or buzz at the right rear of vehicle and/or is built after May 02, 2012 (MDH0502XX) and before June 21, 2012 (MDH0621XX)?
a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 7.
b. No >>> Return the vehicle to the customer or dealer inventory.





7. Inspect the fuel fill door and verify it is fully seated. With the fuel door open perform a light push pull around the fuel fill door. Grasp the fuel fill door hinge (1) with one hand and position the other at the rear edge of the door (2) lightly pulling out board (3) at the locations shown in (Fig. 2).

8. Did the fuel door cover separate from the fuel door housing?
a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 9.
b. No >>> Return the vehicle to the customer or dealer inventory.
9. Remove and reinstall the fuel fill door. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in: DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 23-Body > Exterior > DOOR, Fuel Fill > Removal/Installation. Did the fuel fill door fully seat when reinstalled?
a. Yes >>> Return the vehicle to the customer or dealer inventory.
b. No >>> Remove the fuel fill door. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in: DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 23-Body > Exterior > DOOR, Fuel Fill > Removal and proceed to Step # 10.
10. Remove and replace the fuel fill housing. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in: DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 23-Body > Exterior > Housing, Fuel Fill > Removal/Installation.
11. Reinstall the fuel fill door. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in: DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 23-Body > Exterior > DOOR, Fuel Fill > Installation.

Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
