8HP45 Transmission Service

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin provides transmission service information for the 8HP45 automatic
transmission

MODELS:

2013 DS Ram 1500

2012 - 2013 LD Charger

2012 - 2013 LX 300C

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with the 8HP45 Automatic Transmission (Sales Code DFG) only. This bulletin DOES NOT apply to vehicles equipped with the 845RE Automatic Transmission (Sales Code DFL).

DISCUSSION:
For the first 36 months or 36,000 miles (60,000 km) of use, only the following repairs are allowed:

^ Oil Pan/Filter replacement
^ Oil Pan/Filter Gasket replacement
^ Gearshift Selector Shaft Seal replacement
^ Valve Body (Mechatronics) replacement (must include the Oil Pan/Filter
replacement)
^ Torque Converter replacement
^ Output Shaft Seal replacement

Removal and repair (overhaul) of the 8HP45 Transmission is not an approved repair during the first 36 months/36,000 miles (60,000 km) of service. Unless the diagnosis leads to one of the listed repairs above, the transmission assembly will need to be replaced.

NOTE:
Disassembly of the 8HP45 (Sales Code DFG) is not allowed during the first 36 months/36,000 miles (60,000 km) of service.

After 36 month/36,000 miles (60,000 km), further tear down and repair is allowed.

If an 8HP45 assembly is needed, a request must be submitted to the Powertrain Service Center prior to replacement. Included with the replacement, the Diagnostic Worksheet and the replacement section of the 70% Worksheet is required in order to authorize the proper amount for claim payment. Requests submitted after the transmission has been replaced will be rejected. The Diagnostic Worksheet is used to assist Chrysler Engineering in the
analysis of returned units for root cause and corrective actions.

Powertrain Service Center submissions for replacements would be required to have pictures of the four most damaged parts. Refer to the Warranty Administration Manual, Powertrain Pre-Authorization Program Section for complete details of the Pre-Authorization Program. Any assembly received by Chrysler that has missing parts, is damaged in shipping due to loose parts, or has components installed that are not applicable to the unit, are subject to a complete or partial assembly chargeback based on the circumstances.
