May 2012

Safety Recall M01 / NHTSA 12V-042
Headlamp & ABS/ESC Wiring

Effective immediately all repairs on involved vehicles are to be performed according to this notification. Service Bulletin 08-001-12 and 08-047-11 are no longer applicable for the involved vehicles only.

Models

2011 - 2012 (LD) Dodge Charger

NOTE:
This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with Police Group (sales code AHB) built from July 26, 2010 through December 20, 2011 (MDH 072618 through 122023).

IMPORTANT:
Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer new vehicle inventory. Federal law requires you to complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery. Dealers should also consider this requirement to apply to used vehicle inventory and should perform this recall on vehicles in for service. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the VIP inquiry process.

Subject

The headlamp wiring harness connectors on about 9,100 of the above vehicles may overheat. This could cause a loss of low beam headlamp function without warning. A loss of headlamps during nighttime driving could cause a crash without warning.

These vehicles may also experience a loss of Antilock Brake System (ABS) and/or Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as a result of an overheated Power Distribution Center (PDC) bus bar. A loss of ABS/ESC under certain driving conditions could cause a crash without warning.

Also, the front exterior door handles may cause intermittent operation of the passive entry feature. All 2011 model year vehicles must have the front exterior door handles replaced. This repair is required to improve the quality of the door handles and is not a result of a safety defect.

Repair

All vehicles must have the headlamp harnesses inspected and replaced if
necessary.

The ABS/ESC fuse type must also be inspected. Vehicles that do not pass
inspection must have the ABS/ESC fuse relocated and the fuse type upgraded.

All 2011 model year vehicles must have the front exterior door handles replaced.

To use this system, click on the "Service" tab and then click on "Global Recall System." Your dealers VIN list for each recall displayed can be sorted by: those vehicles that were unsold at recall launch, those with a phone number, city, zip code, or VIN sequence.

Dealers must perform this repair on all unsold vehicles before retail delivery. Dealers should also use the VIN list to follow up with all owners to schedule appointments for this repair.

Recall VIN lists may contain confidential, restricted owner name and address information that was obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles of various states. Use of this information is permitted for this recall only and is strictly prohibited from all other use.
