Gauge Pack - Description





DESCRIPTION





The gauge pack found within the Instrument Cluster (IC) (also known as the Common Instrument Cluster/CIC) for this vehicle houses 4 analog gauges that are each controlled by the IC electronic circuitry. The gauge graphics are silver against a black field except for a single red graduation at the high end of the gauge scale on the engine temperature gauge and several red graduations at the high end of the gauge scale on the tachometer to designate the engine speed red line zone.

When illuminated by the cluster illumination lighting, the silver text and graphics as well as the red graphics still appear the same, the red gauge needles have internal optical illumination. Gauge illumination is provided by dimmer controlled Light Emitting Diode (LED) units soldered onto the IC circuit board. The gauge pack is an integral part of the IC unit. If any gauge is damaged or ineffective, the entire IC must be replaced with a new unit.

The IC includes the following analog gauges:

- Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge (23)
- Fuel Gauge (12)
- Speedometer (1)
- Tachometer (11)

ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE

The standard equipment engine coolant temperature gauge is a minor gauge located within the lower end of the tachometer gauge face on the left side of the IC. The gauge consists of a movable gauge needle or pointer controlled by the IC circuitry and a fixed 90 degree gauge scale on the IC overlay that reads clockwise from left-to-right C (or Cold) to H (or Hot). On SRT models, the C and H are replaced by numerical values in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit, depending upon the market destination. An International Control and Display Symbol icon for Engine Coolant Temperature is located on the gauge face, near the center of the scale.

FUEL LEVEL

The standard equipment fuel level gauge is a minor gauge located within the lower end of the speedometer gauge face on the right side of the IC. The gauge consists of a movable gauge needle or pointer controlled by the IC circuitry and a fixed 90 degree gauge scale on the cluster overlay that reads clockwise from left-to-right E (or Empty) to F (or Full). The International Control and Display Symbol icon for Fuel is located on the gauge face, near the center of the scale. An arrowhead pointed to the left side of the vehicle is imprinted on the cluster overlay next to the Fuel icon on the gauge face to provide the driver with a reminder as to the location of the fuel filler access.

SPEEDOMETER

The standard equipment speedometer is a major gauge located on the right side of the IC. The speedometer consists of a movable gauge needle or pointer controlled by the IC circuitry and a fixed 185 degree primary scale on the gauge dial face that reads clockwise from left-to-right either from 0 to an upper numerical value that varies by model in either miles-per-hour or kilometers-per-hour, depending upon the market destination.

Each version also has a secondary inner scale on the gauge dial face that provides the equivalent opposite units from the primary scale. MPH or km/h text appears on the cluster overlay near the low end of both the primary and secondary scales abbreviating the unit of measure for the primary scale first, followed by the unit of measure for the secondary scale.

TACHOMETER

The standard equipment tachometer is a major gauge located on the left side of the IC. The tachometer consists of a movable gauge needle or pointer controlled by the IC circuitry and a fixed 185 degree scale on the gauge dial face that reads clockwise from left-to-right from 0 to an upper numerical value that varies by model. The text RPM X 1000 is imprinted on the cluster overlay near the low end of the gauge scale identifies that each number on the tachometer scale is to be multiplied by 1000 Revolutions-Per-Minute.
