Air Outlet - Removal






REMOVAL

Special Tools:






WARNING: Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the instrument panel (IP) or cover to service the IP air outlets.

CENTER IP OUTLETS

NOTE: Take the proper precautions to protect the face of center bezel from cosmetic damage while performing this procedure.





1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the center bezel (4) from the instrument panel and place it on a workbench Instrument Panel - Removal.

NOTE: If the foam seal on an air outlet is deformed or damaged, the seal must be replaced.

3. Using Trim Stick or equivalent, disengage the four retaining tabs (1 and 3) that secure each air outlet (2) to the center bezel and remove the outlets as required.

OUTBOARD IP OUTLETS

NOTE: Underside of instrument panel cover shown. Air duct and instrument panel support removed from view for clarity.





1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. When servicing the driver side air outlet, remove the instrument cluster Instrument Cluster - Removal.
3. When servicing the passenger side air outlet, remove the glove box and the glove box trim panel from the instrument panel Instrument Panel Glove Box - Removal.
4. Reach behind the instrument panel and disengage the four retaining tabs (2 and 4) that secure each air outlet (1) to the instrument panel cover (3). Push the retaining tabs in toward the outlet to release them from the back of the instrument panel cover.

NOTE: If the foam seal on an air outlet is deformed or damaged, the seal must be replaced.

5. Disengage the air outlet from the instrument panel duct and remove the air outlet.

FLOOR CONSOLE OUTLETS

NOTE: Take the proper precautions to protect the face of the floor console rear trim panel from cosmetic damage while performing this procedure.





1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the trim panel (1) from the back of the floor console and place it on a workbench Floor Console - Removal.
3. Using Trim Stick or equivalent, disengage the retaining tabs (3) that secure the air outlet (2) to the trim panel and remove the outlet.
