Speed Control Switch - Description

DESCRIPTION

Vehicles equipped with the speed (or cruise) control system have a speed control switch (2) that is concealed and mounted within the hub of the steering wheel. Only the switch control stalk (3) and an integral push button (4) are visible where the stalk extends from the hub of the steering wheel just below the steering wheel rim at about the four o'clock position when the steering wheel is centered.

The switch housing, control stalk and push button are all constructed of molded plastic. The end of the control stalk has white text and graphics applied to it, which clearly identify each of the stalk and push button functions. The switch housing is secured through three integral mounting tabs (5) within the steering wheel hub by three screws. A connector receptacle (1) integral to the inboard end of the switch housing connects the speed control switch to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated take out and connector of the steering wheel wire harness.

The speed control switch cannot be adjusted or repaired. If any function of the switch is ineffective or damaged, the entire switch unit must be replaced.
