DISASSEMBLY

Measure Side Gear End-Play





NOTE: Measure Side Gear End-Play if out of spec. replace the carrier.

1. Rotate the assembly two full revolutions both clockwise and counterclockwise. Set up Dial Indicator (2), Plug 10038 (1) and record end play.
2. Rotate side gear 90 degrees and take another measurement (2). Again, rotate side gear 90 degrees and record a final measurement.
3. Using the smallest end play recorded, shim that side gear to within 0.001 to 0.020 inch (0.024 to.5 mm). The other side gear should be checked using the same procedure.

CAUTION: Side gear end play must be within 0.001 to 0.020 inch (0.024 to.5 mm if more replace the differential.






4. Using Bearing Remover 5048 (1), Plug 8140-2 and Collets 6545 remove the pinion side differential bearing.





5. Using Bearing Remover 5048 (1), Plug 8140-2 and Collets 6545 remove the ring gear side differential bearing.





6. Remove the ring gear bolts (1).





7. Remove the ring gear (2) using a soft hammer (3).
