Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Description and Operation






DESCRIPTION










On the Differential side all gear wheels are helical toothed and are constantly engaged 5th, 6th and reverse gear have simple synchronization. 1st to 4th gears are double synchronized.










All driving gear wheels of the transmission are located on the input shaft. The input shaft is a solid shaft and runs on one ball bearing and one roller bearing. Because of this mounting the input shafts runs without preload and therefore needs no adjusting shims. The input shaft seal nearest the clutch is pressed into the clutch housing.

TRANSAXLE IDENTIFICATION










The transaxle identification label is found on clutch housing.

The label consists of the transaxle part number (2), as well a 12-digit engine identifier/build date code (1) Digits 1-3 are the identifier Digits 4-6 represent the day of year built. The 7th digit represents the calendar year of build, and the remaining 5 digits are the build sequence number. For example, a transaxle with the identifier "TCG114100003" is considered to be the 3rd transaxle built on the 114th day of the year 2001.
