Wastegate Actuator: Testing and Inspection

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - ACTUATOR CALIBRATION

If an OVERBOOST or UNDERBOOST condition exists, check for DTCs. To identify the source of the DTC, Testing and Inspection.

1. Using a paint pen, mark (4) the wastegate actuator rod (2) in line with the turbocharger to actuator mounting bracket (3).

2. Remove the wastegate actuator pressure line (1).
3. Connect a 5mm (3/16 in.) diameter tube onto the nipple on the wastegate actuator (2).

CAUTION: Do not exceed 135kpa (20 psi) or damage to the wastegate actuator diaphragm will result.

4. Using Air Pressure Regulator W-18-MIL-1146AS, apply 69 ± 3.5 kPa (10 ±.5 psi.) to the wastegate actuator.
5. The wastegate actuator rod should move a minimum of 6 mm (0.236 in.)

CAUTION: Do not attempt to adjust the wastegate actuator rod. Doing so will cause unreliable engine operation.

6. If the wastegate actuator is out of specification, replace the turbocharger.
