Wastegate Actuator: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
The turbocharger uses a wastegate to regulate the pressure of the intake air entering the engine. This wastegate is controlled by the wastegate actuator (2) on the turbocharger. When the wastegate valve is closed, all of the exhaust gases flow through the turbine wheel inside the turbocharger. As the intake manifold pressure increases, the wastegate actuator opens the valve, diverting some of the exhaust gases away from the turbine wheel. The wastegate actuator is part of the turbocharger and is not serviced separately.
