Outer Tie Rod End
OUTER TIE ROD END
1. If it is not already installed, install the jam nut (5) on the inner tie rod threads. Thread the nut down the inner tie rod far enough to allow for outer tie rod installation.
2. Thread the outer tie rod (4) onto the inner tie rod approximately the same amount of revolutions as the original was installed.
3. Snug the tie rod jam nut (5) just enough to hold the tie rods in place. Do not tighten the jam nut at this time.
4. Install the outer tie rod ball stud into the hole in the knuckle arm (3). Start a NEW tie rod mounting nut (2) onto the stud. While holding the tie rod end stud with a wrench, tighten the nut with a wrench or crowfoot wrench. Tighten the nut to 132 Nm (97 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the tire and wheel assembly (1)Tires and Wheels - Installation. Install and tighten wheel mounting nuts (3) to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Adjust the front wheel toe setting. Service and Repair.
8. Tighten the tie rod jam nut to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) once wheel toe is set.
