SUBJECT:
Flash: Momentary Increase In Engine Idle Vibration With A Slight Dip In Idle RPM When The Cooling Fan Is Engaged

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

MODELS:

2008 (PM) SRT 4 Caliber

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to models equipped with a 2.4L Turbo engine (Sales Code ED4) built prior to April 18, 2008 (MDH 0418XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may experience a slight dip in engine idle speed along with a momentary increase in engine idle harshness as the cooling fan engages. This is caused by a spike in electrical load to the Alternator.

DIAGNOSIS:
Using a scan tool with the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If no DTC's are present and the vehicle operator experiences the Symptom/Condition perform the repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE - USING THE INTERNET TO RETRIEVE THE FLASH FILE:

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Electronic Control Modules - Service Information > Module - Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures > PCM/ECM Programming - Gas.

2. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label" and attach it near the VECI label.
