THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 18-020-08 REV. A, DATED MAY 14, 2008. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS** AND INCLUDE UPDATE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE. UPDATED SOFTWARE HAS BEEN RELEASED WITH THIS SERVICE BULLETIN AND THIS BULLETIN NOW APPLIES TO THE ENTIRE 2008 MODEL YEAR.

THE StarSCAN(R) FLASH FILES FOR THIS BULLETIN MUST BE RETRIEVED FROM THE INTERNET.

StarSCAN(R) SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 9.05 OR HIGHER.

StarMOBILE DESKTOP CLIENT -OR- StarMOBILE STANDALONE MODE MAY ALSO BE USED TO PERFORM THE FLASH.

SUBJECT:

Flash: MIL Illumination with DIG P0300 and/or P0301 and/or P0302 and/or P0303 and/or P0304 Set

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves **diagnosing the misfire condition, possibly replacing an injector and** selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

MODELS:

2008 (PM) SRT 4 Caliber

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may experience a MIL illumination. A limp in condition and/or lack of Turbo boost after the MIL, can be experienced. Further investigation by the technician may find one or more of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) are set:

i. P0300 - Multiple Cylinder Misfire

ii. P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire

iii. P0302 - Cylinder 2 Misfire

iv. P0303 - Cylinder 3 Misfire

v. P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire

DIAGNOSIS:

Determining Misfire Condition

1. **Has Service Bulletin 18-020-08 or 18-020-08 REV. A been performed?** a. **Yes >> proceed to REPAIR PROCEDURE "C"**

b. **NO >> proceed to Step # 2**

2. Connect the StarSCAN(R) to the vehicle.

3. Read DTC's

4. Are other DTC's set along with P0300, P0301, P0302. P0303 or P0304?

a. Yes >> repair other DTC's first. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT.

b. No >> proceed to Step # 5

5. Inspect the Turbo Charger

6. Has any turbo charger modifications?

a. Yes >> This bulletin does not apply.

b. No proceed to Step # 7

7. Read Freeze Frame Data.

8. Was any of the misfire DTC's set at a low RPM (< 1500 rpm) and low load (< 50 KPA or < 25% load)?

a. Yes >> proceed to REPAIR PROCEDURE "A".

b. No >> Proceed to Step # 9

9. Was any of the misfire DTC's set at a higher RPM (> 1500 rpm) or high load (> 50KPA or > 25% load)?

a. Yes >> proceed to REPAIR PROCEDURE "B".

b. No >> proceed to REPAIR PROCEDURE "C".





PARTS REQUIRED:





SPECIAL TOOLS / EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE "A"

1. Start Engine.

2. Let engine warm up completely.

3. Using the StarSCAN�, monitor misfire and verify the misfire occurs on the appropriate cylinder(s), at idle with no accessory loads.

4. Did misfire occur?

a. Yes >> replace only the injector(s) that caused misfire and proceed to REPAIR PROCEDURE "C".

b. No >> proceed to REPAIR PROCEDURE "B".

REPAIR PROCEDURE "B"

1. 1) Follow the detailed diagnostic procedure available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT to locate and eliminate the misfire issue.

2. Confirm the misfire is eliminated.

3. Proceed to REPAIR PROCEDURE "C". REPAIR PROCEDURE "C" - FLASH PCM:

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Electronic Control Modules - Service Information > Module - Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures > PCM/ECM Programming - Gas.

2. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label and attach it near the VECI label.
