THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 21-018-08, DATED JULY 12, 2008, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS** AND INCLUDE THE ADDITION OF A 2007 JK MODEL.

THE StarSCAN(R) FLASH FILES FOR THIS BULLETIN MUST BE RETRIEVED FROM THE INTERNET.

StarSCAN(R) SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 9.02 OR HIGHER.

StarMOBILE DESKTOP CLIENT -OR- StarMOBILE STANDALONE MODE MAY ALSO BE USED TO PERFORM THE FLASH.

SUBJECT:
Flash: Diagnostic Trouble Code DTC P0740 Or P1798 And Automatic Transmission Shift Improvements 1-2 Or 2-3 Cold Shift Improvements

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

2008 (HB) Durango

**2007** - 2008 (JK) Wrangler

2008 (KA) Nitro

2008 (KA) Nitro (International Markets)

2008 (KK) Liberty

2008 (KK) Liberty (International Markets)

2007 - 2008 (LE) 300C/300 Touring (International Markets)

2007 - 2008 (LX) 300/Magnum/Charger

2007-2008 (ND) Dakota

NOTE:
This Bulletin applies to LX/LE models equipped with a 42 RLE transmission (Sales Code DGV) built before April 28, 2008 (O428XXMDH). This Bulletin applies to all 2008 KA/KK/HB/DR and 2007 - 2008 **JK**/ND vehicles equipped with a 42 RLE transmission (Sales Code DGV).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The software contains the following improvements:

^ 2008 LX 3.5L 1-2 Shift Improvements

^ Cold (Transmission Fluid below 80° F) 2-3 Shift Improvements

Some customers may experience one or more of the concerns as follows:

^ A MIL illumination for P0740 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit/Open

^ A DTC set active or stored for P1798 - Transmission Fluid Deteriorated

DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (StarSCAN(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's other then those listed above are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If the above symptom/condition is experienced or can be verified, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE - USING THE INTERNET TO RETRIEVE THE FLASH FILE:

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Electronic Control Modules - Service Information > Module - Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures> PCM/ECM Programming - Gas.

2. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label" and attach it near the VECI label.
