Instruments - Fuel Gauge Drops to `E'

SUBJECT:
Fuel Gauge Drops to "E" and/or Instrument Cluster Goes Full Bright

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves reprogramming the Body Control Module (BCM).

MODELS:
2001 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid//LHS/300M

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some LH-vehicles may have the instrument cluster illumination go to full bright and/or the fuel gauge drop to the "E" position and low fuel indicator illuminate. These symptoms occur very infrequently and last only a few seconds then the cluster returns to normal operation. A "No BCM Message Received" fault is stored in the cluster.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the vehicle operator describes the above symptoms and the fault is stored in the cluster, perform the Repair Procedure.





EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

NOTE:
THE MDS2 MUST BE OPERATING WITH CIS CD2081 OR HIGHER.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR OTHER FULL SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.

NOTE:
DO NOT REPLACE CLUSTER, FUEL GAUGE, FUEL SENDING UNIT, OR HEADLAMP SWITCH, SINCE REPLACING THESE PARTS WILL NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM.

1. Flash the BCM using the MDS2 (Mopar Diagnostic System) and DRBIII(R) (Scan Tool).
