Power Steering Fluid Return Hose

NOTE: Before proceeding with this removal and installation procedure, review Service Precautions under Steering.

CAUTION: Care must be taken when removing or installing the power steering fluid return hose on the power steering fluid reservoir. If excessive force is used, the nipple can break off of the reservoir.

REMOVAL
1. Raise the vehicle.





2. Remove the hose clamp, attaching the return hose to the steel tube at the power steering gear. Let the power steering fluid drain from return hose and power steering fluid reservoir until the reservoir is empty.

3. Remove the power steering return hose from the routing clip on the generator shield.
4. Lower the vehicle.

5. Remove the tube clip at the generator shield attaching the power steering fluid return hose to the power steering fluid pressure hose.

6. Remove the hose clamp, attaching the power steering return hose to the power steering fluid reservoir. Then remove the power steering return hose from the power steering fluid reservoir.
7. Remove the power steering return hose from the vehicle. The power steering return hose is removed through the top of the engine compartment.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the power steering return hose on vehicle. The power steering return hose is installed from the top of the vehicle's engine compartment.
2. Install the power steering return hose on the power steering fluid reservoir fitting. Install the hose clamp on the power steering return hose at the power steering fluid reservoir. Be sure the hose clamp is installed on return hose past upset bead on the power steering fluid reservoir.
3. Raise the vehicle.
4. Clip the power steering return hose and pressure hose together.
5. Install the power steering return hose on the steel tube at the power steering gear. Install the hose clamp on the power steering return hose at the power steering gear. Be sure the hose clamp is installed on the return hose past upset bead on steel tube at power gear.
6. Install the power steering return hose on the routing clip at the generator shield.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Perform the POWER STEERING PUMP INITIAL OPERATION service procedure to properly fill and bleed the power steering system.

9. Check for leaks at all hose connections.
