Parking Brake Lever Auto Adjuster Mechanism
PARKING BRAKE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER LOADINGWARNING: THE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTING FEATURE OF THIS PARKING BRAKE LEVER CONTAINS A CLOCK SPRING LOADED TO APPROXIMATELY 20 POUNDS. DO NOT RELEASE THE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER LOCKOUT DEVICE UNLESS THE PARKING BRAKE CABLES AND EQUALIZER ARE CONNECTED TO THE LEVER OUTPUT CABLE. KEEP HANDS OUT OF AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER SECTOR AND PAWL AREA. FAILURE TO OBSERVE CAUTION IN HANDLING THIS MECHANISM COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY.
WARNING: WHEN REPAIRS TO THE PARKING BRAKE LEVER OR CABLES ARE REQUIRED, THE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER MUST BE LOADED AND LOCKED OUT TO AVOID POSSIBLE INJURY.
Attaching Screws At Rear Of Center Console With Out Arm Rest:
Attaching Screws At Rear Of Center Console With Arm Rest:
1. Remove the screws attaching the rear of the center console assembly to the console bracket.
Attaching Screws At Front Of Center Console:
2. Remove the 2 screws located in cup holders, attaching front of center console assembly to console bracket.
3. Raise the parking brake hand lever as high as it will go for required clearance to remove center console.
4. Remove the center console assembly from vehicle.
5. Lower the parking brake lever handle.
Locking Pin Installed In Park Brake Lever:
6. Grasp the parking brake lever output cable by hand and pull upward. Continue pulling on the cable until a 3/16 inch drill bit can be inserted into the lever and sector gear of parking brake mechanism. This will lock the parking brake automatic adjustment mechanism in place and take tension off the parking brake cables.
PARKING BRAKE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER UNLOADING
NOTE: The parking brake lever can be in any position when releasing the automatic adjuster. To ease installation of center console, it is advisable to pull park brake lever handle all the way up before removing lockout pin
Park Brake Cables Properly Installed In Equalizer:
1. Be sure the parking brake cables are properly installed in the equalizer.
2. Pull the parking brake lever handle all the way up.
Removing Lockout Pin From Park Brake Lever:
3. Keeping your hands clear of the automatic adjuster sector and pawl area, firmly grasp the parking brake lever locking pin, and quickly remove it from the parking brake lever mechanism. This will allow the park brake lever mechanism to automatically adjust the parking brake cables.
4. Install the center console.
5. Install the 4 console assembly attaching screws.
6. Cycle the parking brake lever once to position the parking brake cables. Then return the parking brake lever its released position. Check the rear wheels of the vehicle, they should rotate freely without dragging with the lever in this position.
