Cable Installation
1. Install the parking brake cable through the floor pan of the vehicle making sure sealing grommet is installed in the floor pan as far as possible to insure proper seal.2. Install the parking brake cable into the brake support plate or the rear disc brake adapter. Be sure the locking fingers on the cable retainer are expanded to ensure park brake cable is securely held in the support plate or adapter. Push the cable in until the fingers lock the cable in place.
3. Attach the parking brake cable routing bracket to the frame rail. Install and securely tighten routing bracket attaching bolt.
4. On vehicles equipped with rear drum brakes:
^ Install the parking brake cable on the parking brake cable actuating lever.
^ Install the actuating spring to the brake shoe and the brake adjustment lever.
5. On vehicles equipped with rear disc brakes:
^ Install the parking brake shoes actuator lever on the parking brake cable.
^ Install the parking brake shoe assemblies on the disc brake adapter.
6. Install the hub and bearing on the rear spindle. Install a new hub and bearing retaining nut. Tighten the retaining nut to a torque of 217 Nm (160 ft. lbs.). Install the dust cap.
7. On drum brake equipped vehicles, install the rear brake drum.
Rear Caliper Guide Pin Bolts:
8. On vehicles equipped with rear disc brakes, install the brake rotor and disc brake caliper assembly. Install the 2 caliper guide pin bolts and tighten them to a torque of 22 Nm (192 inch lbs.).
9. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Tighten all wheel nuts to a torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
10. Lower the vehicle.
Seal Grommet Installation In Floor Pan:
11. Grasp park brake cable to floor pan seal grommet by hand, and ensure the seal grommet is fully seated into floor pan.
Park Brake Cable Installed In Retaining Bracket:
12. Route the parking brake cable under the carpeting, up to park brake cable retaining bracket on floor pan. Install the parking brake cable into the retaining bracket. Push the cable in until the locking fingers on the cable retainer lock the cable into place.
13. Install the rear parking brake cables into the equalizer on the parking brake lever output cable.
14. Reposition the rear carpeting in place.
15. Install both rear door sill plate scuff moldings.
16. Install the rear seat cushion. Be sure the seat cushion is fully installed in the retainers on the floor pan of the vehicle.
17. Following the procedure, unload the automatic adjuster. Keep your hands clear of the automatic adjuster sector and pawl area when unloading the automatic adjuster.
18. Cycle the parking brake lever once to position the parking brake cables. Then return the parking brake lever its released position. Check the rear wheels of the vehicle, they should rotate freely without dragging with the lever in this position.
19. Apply the parking brake to the fully engaged position.
20. Install the center console assembly.
21. Install the center console assembly attaching screws.
Removing Lockout Pin From Park Brake Lever:
22. Release the parking brake lever.
