Without ABS

NOTE: This service procedure is for the non-Antilock Brake System (ABS) master cylinder. For the procedure to bleed the master cylinder on a vehicle equipped with ABS, refer to Antilock Brake System.

Bleeding Tubes Attached To Non-ABS Master Cylinder:

1. Clamp the master cylinder in a vise. Attach Bleeding Tubes, Special Tool 6802 to the master cylinder. Position the tubes so their outlets are below the surface of brake fluid when reservoir is filled to its proper level.

NOTE: The bleeding tubes are designed to bleed the master cylinder with the proportioning valves attached.

2. Fill brake fluid reservoir with Mopar brake fluid, or an equivalent conforming to DOT 3 specifications.

Bleeding Master Cylinder:

3. Using a wooden dowel as a pushrod, press the pistons inward slowly, then allow them to return to the released position. Repeat this several times until all air bubbles are expelled out of the tubes.
4. Remove the bleeding tubes from the master cylinder and plug the outlet ports.
5. Install the fill cap on the reservoir.
6. Remove the master cylinder from the vise.

NOTE: It is not necessary to bleed the entire hydraulic system after replacing just the master cylinder unless the brake system has been open to air for an excessive amount of time. Only the master cylinder must be bled and filled.
