SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some vehicles may exhibit a condition where the sunshade fabric delaminates from the substrate along the edges of the sunshade. This delamination can be seen through the sunroof and/or can cause the sunshade to bind.

DIAGNOSIS:

Look at the sunshade to see if the fabric has delaminated from the substrate material. If the delamination is present, perform the Repair Procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 NPN 3M 8984, General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (or equivalent)
1 NPN 3M 1357, Scotch Grip Adhesive (or equivalent)
1 04467709 Mopar, No Run Super Glue

NOTE:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves cleaning the substrate edges and re-glueing the fabric to the substrate with appropriate adhesives.

1. Following appropriate service manual procedures, remove the sunshade from the vehicle.

NOTE:
FJ MODELS HAVE A TWO PIECE SUNSHADE.

2. Wet a lint free cloth with 3M p/n 8984 and wipe the delaminated surfaces to remove dirt, oil, or any other contaminants.

3. Wait 5 minutes for the solvent to evaporate.

4. Apply 3M p/n 1357 with a brush to the delaminated fabric and mating substrate area. Make sure 100% of each contact surface is covered.

5. Wait 5 minutes or until both surfaces are dry to the touch.

6. Add six drops of p/n 04467709 evenly along the edge of each side that is being reglued.

7. Bond the fabric to the substrate and apply firm pressure.

8. Reinstall the sunshade into the sunroof.
