RKE Key Fob Inoperative - Dead Battery

THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH CHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR OTHER FULL SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.

MODELS:

1998 - 1999 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/LHS/300M

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH NON-ROLLING CODE RKE KEY FOBS, P/N 04602268AA, WITH A DATE CODE PRIOR TO 6/25/98 (JULIAN DATE CODE 1768A, 176TH DAY OF 1998) OR SPECIFIC DATE CODE OF 7/25/98 (JULIAN DATE CODE 2068A, 206TH DAY OF 1998). THE JULIAN DATE IS INK STAMPED ON THE INSIDE OF THE KEY FOB BOTTOM HOUSING.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Inoperative Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) key fob/transmitter due to discharged battery (less than 3.2 volts). A new battery will discharge prematurely. The expected life of batteries is from one to two years.

DIAGNOSIS:

The key fobs/transmitters built in the affected litre frame have a potential hardware incompatibility between the integrated circuits on the printed circuit board. This incompatibility can cause premature discharge of the batteries. If the key fob/transmitter has a discharged battery or the owner complains of short battery life and the key fob/transmitter is p/n 04602268AA built in the time frame listed, perform the Repair Procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

AR (2) 04602268AA Key Fob/Transmitter, Remote Keyless Entry

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves inspecting and replacing the RKE key fob(s)/transmitter(s).

1. Verify the part number and build date of the RKE fob(s)/transmitter(s).

2. Ensure the vehicle is in the "PARK" position and turn the ignition "ON".

3. Using the DRB III(R) select "Miscellaneous" "Program RKE". The BCM will chime.

4. Press any button on the key fob/transmitter. The BCM will chime.

5. Press any button on any additional key fob/transmitter if applicable. The BCM will chime.

NOTE:
ONCE "PROGRAM RKE" MODE IS ENTERED, ANY PREVIOUSLY PROGRAMMED KEY FOBS/TRANSMITTERS MUST BE RE-PROGRAMMED.

6. Exit "Program RKE" and turn ignition "OFF". The BCM will chime.

7. Verify RKE operation.
