Speed Proportional Steering Circuit Open or Shorted to Ground
NAME OF CODESpeed Proportional Steering Solenoid Circuit Open or Shorted to Ground
WHEN MONITORED
With ignition on
SET CONDITION
BCM detects no current flowing through the speed proportional steering solenoid when it attempts to drive it.
THEORY OF OPERATION
The BCM provides a high current (up to 1 Amp) pulse-width modulated signal to the speed proportional solenoid as appropriate for vehicle speed (high current at low vehicle speed, low current at high vehicle speed). Due to temperature and solenoid tolerance, the BCM needs to monitor the feedback current and continually adjust it. If the BCM does not detect this current, it will disable the output and set this fault.
PROBABLE CAUSES
- Wiring open circuit
- Wiring short to ground
- Speed Proportional Steering Solenoid failure
- BCM failure
