Customer Satisfaction Notification # 785
Rear Crossmember Lateral Link Plate Welds
^ This service requirement applies only to certain 1998 model year Dodge and Plymouth Neon (PL) vehicles built at the Belvidere Assembly Plant ("D" in the 11th VIN Position) from March 3, 1998 through March 31, 1998 (MDH 030316 through 033112)
NOTE:
Most of the vehicles within the above build period have already been inspected or repaired and therefore, have been excluded from this notification.
^ The rear crossmember lateral link plates on the above listed vehicles, may have been improperly welded to the crossmember. To correct this condition, the rear crossmember lateral link plates must be riveted to the crossmember.
Alternate Transportation:
^ If the inspection in Section "A" of the repair procedure determines that one or more of the rear crossmember lateral link plates have broken loose, a Miller Special Tool is required and the vehicle must be held overnight. Dealers should attempt to minimize customer inconvenience by placing the owner in a loaner vehicle.
Parts Packages:
^ Each involved dealer, to whom vehicles in this notification were invoiced, will receive enough Rivet Packages to service 100% of those vehicles.
Power Rivet Gun Requirement:
^ ALL Chrysler-Plymouth and Dodge dealers were sent one (1) air/hydraulic power set riveter in mid-December 1998.
Miller Special Tool Requirement:
A lateral link plate alignment fixture (Miller Special Tool No. 8525) may be required on a very small number of vehicles. This alignment fixture is only available through the STAR Center, and will be shipped to dealers only for those vehicles with lateral link plates that have broken loose from the crossmember as determined by the inspection in Section "A" of the repair procedure. The fixture tool remains the property of Chrysler Corporation and must be returned promptly after repair.
