B. Rivet Rear Crossmember-to-Frame Saddle

NOTE:
Only those vehicles that have missing spot welds, as determined by the inspection in Section A, require repair. Very few vehicles are expected to require riveting.

1. Mark the rear lateral link adjustment cam location on the affected side(s) of the rear crossmember (Figure 2).

2. Remove the nut, bolt, washer and toe adjustment cam from the affected lateral link(s) (Figure 2). Rotate the link(s) down and out of the way.

3. Insert the provided steel shim plate(s) into the gap(s) between the crossmember and the frame saddle (Figure 3). Drive the shim in until the outboard edge of the shim plate is flush with the edge of the saddle

4. Mark and center punch four (4) rivet locations on the bottom and six (6) rivet locations on the front or rear vertical surface of the affected frame saddle(s) (Figure 3).

NOTE:
Ten (10) structural rivets per side will provide the needed strength for all missing spot welds.

5. Using a 1/8" (3 mm) bit, drill a pilot hole at each of the center punched rivet locations.

NOTE:
A right angle (90°) drill adapter must be used on the front (fuel tank) side of the crossmember.

6. Enlarge each hole using a 17/64" (7 mm) (letter size "G") drill bit.

7. Using the supplied power set riveter (W-AK17 5ACH) or equivalent, install one of the supplied structural rivets in each location (Figure 3). Make sure that each rivet has joined the crossmember and frame saddle together. If gaps exist, the appropriate rivet must be drilled out and replaced with another rivet (two spare rivets are provided in each parts package).

IMPORTANT:
For proper power riveter operation, air pressure must be at least 90 psi. Also, do NOT depress both of the riveter triggers at the same time. Refer to the operating instructions included with the power riveter for further information.

8. Reinstall the lateral link(s). Align the adjustment cam marks to set the cam in its original location (Figure 2). Do NOT tighten the lateral link nut(s)

9. Lower the vehicle.

10. Check and reset the rear wheel TOE to the preferred specification. With the suspension supporting the total weight of the vehicle, tighten the lateral link attaching nut(s) to 70 ft-lbs (95 N.m).
