SAFETY RECALL TO INSPECT YOUR VEHICLE'S REAR CROSSMEMBERAND REPAIR IT IF NECESSARY
Dear Neon Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
DaimlerChrysler Corporation has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1998 Dodge and Plymouth Neon vehicles.
The problem is...
Some rear crossmember-to-frame saddle spot welds on your Neon (identified on the enclosed form) may be missing. Missing spot welds weaken the frame and increase the potential for fuel leakage in the event of a rear end collision. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in an underbody fire. In addition, missing spot welds can lead to structural cracks in the crossmember, frame saddles and/or floor pan.
What DaimlerChrysler and your dealer will do...
DaimlerChrysler will repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). To do this, your dealer will inspect the rear crossmember-to-frame saddle spot welds. If spot welds are missing~ the rear crossmember will be riveted to the frame saddle(s). The inspection will take less than 1/2 hour to complete. Riveting, if necessary, will require another one to two hours. However, additional time may be necessary depending on how dealer appointments are scheduled and processed.
What you must do to ensure your safety...
^ Simply contact your dealer right away to schedule a service appointment.
^ Bring the enclosed Owner Notification Form with you to your dealer. It identifies the required service to the dealer.
