Variable Induction Control Actuator: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
The Variable Induction Control Servo (VICS) creates a variable length intake air path in the intake manifold plenum chamber. This provides higher torque and a wider torque band.
OPERATION
Intake track length is controlled within the plenum chamber by opening the shutter valves to shorten intake path above 5000 RPM, and closing the shutter valves below 5000 RPM to lengthen the path.
The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the shutter valves by actuating the VICS (DC servo motor).
