EGR Solenoid Inspection

EGR Control Solenoid Valve Location:

1. Disconnect the yellow and white striped vacuum hoses from the solenoid valve.
2. Disconnect the harness connector from the solenoid.
3. Connect a hand vacuum pump to the nipple to which the white striped vacuum hose was connected.
4. Apply a vacuum and observe vacuum gauge while applying battery voltage across the solenoid terminals with jumper wires.

^ Vacuum should hold while voltage is connected.
^ Vacuum should not hold while voltage is disconnected.

5. Measure the resistance between the solenoid terminals. The acceptable resistance range is 36-44 ohms @ 20° C (68° F).
6. If the solenoid failed any test, replace solenoid.
