Removal and Replacement

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain transaxle fluid.









3. Remove transaxle assembly in numbered sequence shown in Fig.13, noting the following:
a. Raise transaxle assembly using suitable transmission jack to relieve weight off of mounts, then remove transaxle mount insulator bolt.
b. Loosen, but do not remove tie rod ends using ball joint puller tool No. MB991113-01, or equivalent.
c. Remove left driveshaft bearing bracket bolts and insert pry bar between bearing bracket and cylinder block.
d. Remove left driveshaft and inner shaft assembly from transaxle. Remove driveshaft and inner shaft assembly together with hub and knuckle.





e. Remove right driveshaft by applying pry bar to protrusion, Fig.11. Remove driveshaft as an assembly together with hub and knuckle





f. Support transaxle assembly with a suitable transaxle stand, then rotate crankshaft and remove four torque converter bolts, Fig.12.
g. After removing bolts, push torque converter toward transaxle.
h. Remove coupling bolt at bottom of transaxle assembly, then lower transaxle assembly.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install torque converter to transaxle, then install transaxle.
b. When connecting transaxle control cable to manual control lever, tighten nut temporarily, then loosen nut and pull cable out slightly and tighten nut.
