Rear Power Steering Hydraulic System Bleeding
1. Bleed front power steering system -- See procedure.2. Raise and support vehicle. Because wheels will be moving during this procedure, ensure vehicle is secured properly and do not allow anyone near drive wheels or other moving components.
3. Start engine and let it idle.
4. Loosen bleeder screw on left-hand side of control valve.
5. Connect one end of a vinyl hose on the bleeder screw and the other into a suitable container.
6. Turn steering wheel to left-hand stop and back to center, and repeat until no air remains in system.
7. Repeat bleeding steps for the right-hand side, turning steering wheel to the right-hand stop.
8. Loosen power cylinder bleeder screws and place a vinyl hose between the bleeder screws.
9. Start engine and raise indicated vehicle speed to 43-50 mph.
10. Maintain an indicated speed of 19-25 mph while turning steering wheel from stop to stop. When wheel is turned to either stop position pressure will rise and air will circulate inside vinyl hose. Ensure air is discharged into reservoir. Repeat step several times until no air appears in vinyl hose.
11. Ensure there is no more than 0.2 inch difference in fluid level when engine is running and when it is stopped. If the difference is more than 0.2 inch there is air still trapped in the system; repeat this procedure as neccessary.
